When do projects start?
September/October 2023.
What is the deadline for applications?
We have completed three rounds of recruitment. Positions will remain live until they are filled.
Do I need to talk to proposed supervisors prior to making an application?
No. You can email supervisors before you apply, if you wish, but they may not have time to answer your query. Or they may prefer to assess applications as they come in through the system.
What do I do if I cannot see a project preference in the list on Good Grants?
Check the d-real website to see if that project has been filled. As projects are filled we will remove them as choices on the Good Grants system. Filled positions will be marked as filled on the d-real website.
Can I edit my application once it has been submitted?
Yes. You are permitted to make changes to your application. You can sign in again to Good Grants and it will permit you to make edits.
Can I make second application?
No. Only one application per person is permitted.
How do I track the progress of my application?
There is no means of tracking where your application sits on Good Grants. If a supervisor is interested in interviewing you they will invite you to interview by email. We will move you through your preferences without notifying you. If you are not selected by your top three preferences then we will email you to let you know that you were unsuccessful in your application.
I am unable to attach a document, what should I do?
Good Grants will only allow attachments up to 5MB per document in size. If your document is under this size then you can try using another computer to attach the document.
I would like to send additional documents to support my application. Can I send this material directly to the supervisors?
No. You are only permitted to attach five documents and they must be attached through the Good Grants system. If a supervisor requests additional information prior to interview then you can send them on material.
Do I need to attach proof that I meet the English language requirements?
It is not mandatory, but it is advised that you do so. If you are successful this will be assessed by the university in which you register, not by the d-real programme. Some supervisors prefer to see proof when reviewing applications, so keep that in mind. It is better to include up-to-date proof at application stage.
Will my application be assessed by all three project supervisors?
Your project will firstly be reviewed by your first preference topic supervisor. They will decide whether or not to interview you for the role. If you are not interviewed for the role then we will move you to your second preference topic. If you are interviewed, but are unsuccessful, we will move you to your second preference topic. If you are successful at interview then you can accept or reject the role. If you reject it we will move you to your second preference topic. If you accept it then your application will not be viewed by any other supervisor.
What does it mean if it says NTA beside one of my project preferences?
This means that the project listed has since been filled. You can also see if projects have been filled by looking at the d-real 2023 PhD Topics page.
